IMPACT-Antiracism book club

I've affectionately coined this Book club "IMPACT" as we will be examining our Impact vs. our intent. This book club is a safe space to explore and unpack topics related to issues of race and equality and to share my personal/ professional lived-expertise on topics ranging from feminism and environmental justice to family policy and education, and more. Each month, I will choose a book(s) that speak to me for members to digest at their leisure. I will also share personal narratives, thoughts, ideas and occasionally welcome other BIPOC guests in order to invite allies and co-conspirators to cultivate their capacity for empathic listening and conversation. This idea stemmed from a social media group I created and lead in 2020. As I convened groups and facilitated discussions, I found myself exhausted and unfulfilled, but passionate about the opportunity to converse with those committed to showing up. I since, ended my role and subsequently halted the group though still continuously finding myself in the role of educator whether in my own personal life or professional capacities as a Health Equity Coordinator working for the State Dept. of Health in THE state with the worst Black mortality and incarceration rates in the nation. Having been called to speak and advocate often, I too, realized I had much insight to give, but at what cost? I don't intend to profit from others need to reckon with their internalized racist beliefs. Healing and regeneration is my purpose and gift!
